Xootr Swift Folding Bicycle - Blue

Product Description

The Xootr Swift folding bicycle is a great bicycle which happens to fold. The Xootr Swift is a real bike with classic frame angles and wheelbase. It rides like a real bike. For most people it can be your only bike. It happens to get quite compact in about 10 seconds. This is very useful if you need to pop your bike in your car...or take it in an elevator...or carry it on a train. It will also pack into a standard suitcase (e.g., a Samsonite hardshell suitcase) with about 15 minutes of your time, so you can take it with you when you travel. We have gone to great lengths to make the hard decisions for you. You need only provide us with some information about your size and we will configure your Swift at the factory to meet your needs.

We are bicycle enthusiasts at Xootr and we ride the Swift folding bicycle for pretty much all uses except off-road mountain biking and road racing (and honestly, we've done some racing on a Swift as well). We commute by bicycle all year on the Swift. We use the Swift for recreational riding. The Swift folding bicycle also makes an excellent family bicycle because it fits a wide variety of sizes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, rigid, light, May 7, 2009

I bought my Xootr Swift two years ago, and it's been a very fun, fast, useful ride since.

First, the weaknesses:
It's a big bulky fold. Think Smoothhound squashed in half--or twice the size of a folded Strida. It's an elegant, fast fold (6 seconds for me)--but it's not small.
It's rigid. No energy is lost from the rider to the road. On the crappy SF streets (ahem, Mr Newsom), you can really feel every bump. That being said, it's much smoother a ride than a Dahon TT pro, and it's cheaper.

Now, it's strengths:
It's a great ride. It's very similar to a Bike Friday Pocket Rocket in ride, but much cheaper.
It's light (mine's 22 lbs, heavier than stock). It accelerates great. A gentleman named Jur has made his bike under 18 lbs.
It uses standard parts, and it's almost infinitely customizeable (can't be made a recumbent). You can put almost anything on it, from BMX parts, to weight weenie roadie gear, to old Suntour... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A very competent folding bike, September 27, 2009
This review is from: Xootr Swift Folding Bicycle - Blue (Misc.)
Firstly, I didn't purchase from Amazon. However, this was such a good product that I thought to share my views with others.

I am not living in USA, and was able to find an official distributor for XOOTR where I live. The price was very fair based on XOOTR's USA list price.

To quickly summarise, this is a very nice riding bike. You can easily search for many reviews online, and provided you can live with its negatives, this bike is a great folding bike.

The biggest and significant negative to XOOTR Swift is the folded size. If you want something that can fold into really small package, look elsewhere.

I would consider next significant negative to be its price. It's not cheap. If you want an economical folding bike, look elsewhere. For this price, you can actually 2 budget variants of folded bikes that you can find just about anywhere.

So, If you can live with above 2 mentioned negatives, there's really nothing else to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A great bike that folds a bit, August 2, 2010

I bought my Swift about five years ago for a four mile suburban commute, stashing it under my desk at work. It was great for that purpose - a nice solid bike that a large man could ride aggressively. A few years ago I moved to the city, and began folding it to take on the light rail. Folding bikes aren't required on light rail (unlike MARC), but it's nice to take up less space when it gets crowded. Once I replaced the tires with Schwalbe Marathons, the bike was ready for city streets.

But disaster struck. The (original) Swift folded and unfolded by sliding the seat post into adjoining frame tubes, but it was a tight fit and there was no visual clue to tell you when the seat post connection was deep enough. The lubricant on the seatpost began to deplete. I was in a rush off the light rail, and I must not have pushed it deep enough, so the bike unfolded out from under me. The back half of the frame was ruined and I sprained and mildly fractured my wrist.

I emailed... Read more
